This black sand beach isn't considered as beautiful as Parangtritis Beach by many people. So, there is a logical motive why this beach is  popular for others.

If you are a seafood lover, Depok Beach is trully suitable place to enjoy the delicacy of seafood while viewing the blue beach, hear the sound of sea waves and feel the fresh of sea  breeze.
Simply, when you arrive at this beach. Park your vehicles, then walk toward the beach where you will be welcomed by a monument of a fisherman's pulling a net on his boat. This is, indeed the iconic of Depok beach, the most favorite spot to have selfie.
From this monument, we can conclude this beach is as a fish landing center or commonly known as a fish auction anchorage.

Many who love seafood may think that fresh water fish is tasteless.
Fortunately, there are many food stalls which sell a variety of seafood, such as squid, lobster, white snapper and more.
And if you wish, you can buy fresh fish at a fish market, a fish auction center (within the beach area) or from fishermen. It's Important to choose the fresh fish and bring them to a food stall nearby to cook them for you according to your request. You merely pay for the cooking service and drinks you order.

Its brief history

The locals used to be farmers, until one day some fishermen from Cilacap landed on this beach and sold their fish to the villagers, some exchanged the fish with fruits, vegetables and others.
The locals thought that being a fisherman was challenging and interesting, so, they started abandoning their occupation as  farmers then became fishermen.
When you are in Depok Beach, you will see many lovely blue boats.

If your main purpose to visit Depok Beach is for having a delicious seafood. You may be upset when you come there either on "Selasa Kliwon" or "Jumat Kliwon".

You know that many Javanese (a majority of ethnic group in Java island, Indonesia), including Depok Beach fishermen, still believe in sacred days of "Selasa Kliwon" (tuesday kliwon) and "Jumat Kliwon" (friday kliwon). Those are related to Javanese "Pasaran" days (5-day: Pahing, Pon, Wage, Kliwon, Legi), combined with "Dina Pitu" (7-day: sunday, monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, friday and saturday.
So, on those days, "selasa kliwon" and "jumat kliwon" fishermen don't catch fish and the fish auction center and the fish market are closed as well.
